I just picked up a 5870 card from Microcenter for $360 and i currently have a Acer P243 24 inch moniter but i am willing to buy 3 new moniters, 1st do i need moniters that have built in display port or a special cable or hub to use any moniters, Im kinda of confused and i am either going to order 3 moniters tonight or go to Tigerdirect/Frys/Microcenter tomorrow so i can enjoy my 3 day weekend playing some games. TIA ;)

you either need one with display port, or take your chances with using an "active" dp-dvi converter. dp monitors aren't very prominent yet so you may be limited as to your choices. thers a post somewhere here about the dp-dvi adapters. apparently they work but they still have issues as well. whats your budget?

heres the best way to do it (what ive done =D lol)

i bought 3 Asus 22" monitors from zip fly zoom for 150 each but they dont have dp ports. the issues with the dp to dvi are still high:
flicking screen
doesnt work all the time
etcetc

what i ended up doing is buying a VGA to DP adapter from monoprice for 20 dollars. when the dp goes throught the adapter, the digital to analog signal acts like an active adapter so ther eis no screen flickering. the only issues ive had are that if the computer restarts, sometimes the vga monitor wont show properly. if thats the case i just unplug and plug back in and it fixes it.

i figure i can wait for ATI to release a cheap dvi to dp adapter and deal with the vga for a while. also the vga is able to produce the 1080p resolution properly, so yo ucan still use the native monitor settings.

there were some other issues i ran into when i first set it up but i dont exactly remeber what i had to do to fix them. ill check my messages etc

the total cost (not including the video card) was 620 after tax and california electronic waste fee...

EDIT******

just found what my original issue was. i was trying to use dvi, hdmi, and vga-dp. this doesnt work because the hdmi wont work when the dp is being used. i just switched to dvi, dvi, vga-dp

works like a charm

Color me lucky, cause I've been using eyefinity with a DP-DVI active adapter, and have had 0 issues with my monitors since i got them in Jan

I have CCC on startup to automatically detect my display settings on my DP > VGA monoprice adapter and it's been working great so far.

When using EyeFinity with 3 monitors where 1 of the monitors uses DisplayPort, are you required to place the DP monitor in the middle or can you orient DVI/DVI/DP in any physical orientation you want?

You can sequence the displays in any arrangement you want..

Ahh ok so now i understand, Out of the 3 moniters 2 are hooked up via DVI, and the 3rd moniter needs to have Displayport built into it or i need the adapter which is basically gonna be $100 correct?

Sorry my budget is $1500 for moniters and any cables i need.

With a budget like that you could get 3 IPS displays with DP built in and forget about any adapter nonsense. I'm waiting on the new HP monitor (24", IPS) that is rumored to have an MSRP of $425 - should be coming out sometime this month. You might want to ask around in the display forum.
