Is eyefinity possible on a 6950 and 6950 dcii using a combination of three ports on each GPU in crossfire (obviously) ?

No, because when CrossFire is enabled *ALL* the video ports on the non-master card(s) are disabled. You *CAN* get Eyefinity 6 to work in CrossFire by using all the ports on the DCII - I happen to have the same combination as you and have gotten it to work.

thanks man. Er just wandering actually if I plug in all six monitors into the dcii and have the crossfire ribbon attached to the 6950, do the fans run on the 6950 or does it just do absolutely nothing to the performance of the computer's graphics?

There will be a distinct performance advantage in Crossfire with games that support it, especially at higher resolutions. Not every game scales in Crossfire well so YMMV.
