Eyefinity 6 Asus 6970 2gb problems

i have an asus 6970 eyefinity 6 card and im having trouble running 5 displays on it. the card is brand new. so ive never had a working set up.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...pk=asus%206970

currently, i have 4x dell U3011s hooked up all through display port. i also have 1x LED LCD TV hooked up with dvi to hdmi.

the dells run 2560 x 1600 and the TV runs 1080p

i think i have a bad displayport on the card but i wanted to ask to be sure.

i cannot get all 4 dells running at once. i can get 3 dells and hdtv but the 4th dell does not work.

the system detects the display and sees that i have 5 displays connected but i cannot get any video output.

whats also weird is that the monitor that wont display is almost like its frozen. i cannot change inputs or do anything.

all 4 of my monitors are good and all out display ports on the card work.

there is a section that shows a switch on the card, you cannot run a dual link dvi and all 4x displayports. i tried to toggle the switch just in case a displayport was turned off but thats not the case.

i am able to get all 4 monitors working but only if i force the one that had no output to a resolution 1080p or lower. this cannot be right because the only resolution restriction i see/saw when doing my research was on the dvi (dual/single link).

thanks!

Probably stupid question, but have you tried running the DVI -> HDMI on the other DVI output?

And probably another stupid one, but is your DVI to HDMI pinned for dual link on the DVI side?

couple things to try..

1. try connecting the tv to the single link DVI port instead of the dual link DVI port.
2. move the monitor to a different displayport with the same displayport adapter see if it comes up as 2560x1600.
2a. if that doesn't work try a different displayport adapter.

its more likely a displayport adapter/cable being faulty then the actual displayport on the card.

thank you for the suggestions above but i am currently testing with no hdmi or dvi connections.

currently i am just running 4x dp.

i cannot in any configuration get 4 simultaneous outputs at 2560 x 1600 no matter how i arrange the cables or the monitors.

ive tested each cable and each monitor i can get any 3 monitors and any 3 cables working. i just cannot get 4.

i also can get 3x 2560 x 1600 and 1x 1080p which is weird and concerning to me.

it makes me think that the hardware is good and this is just a limitation of the hardware which would be very frustrating. as the asus site and newegg both list full 2560 x 1600 resolution with no restrictions. it wasnt even till i got the box that i learned about the gimped dvi port with all the dp ports enabled.

Ahhoooo, okay. What I'm wondering is - it looks like that last DVI is married to the 4th Display Port for some reason. Display Port doesn't need a clock, so why would they need to drop a switch on there to enable SL / DL DVI modes and only allow SL-DVI and DP to work together.

I would suspect the reason behind that little quirk is the root of your problem.

If you go DL-DVI to your 4th 30" does that work?

i would contact asus, or maybe hit up the asus customer service rep here on the forum and see what they/he has to say.

i'm wondering if the so called 6 display support is really with 6 1200P or 1080P displays. and thus the reason for the switch.

toggling the switch on the card i totally drop the 4th dp, this i assume enables dual link dvi.

i have to dig around in my stuff to see if i have a dvi to dp adapter and ill see if i can get 2560 x 1600 out of it.

i dont have a long enough dvi cable to actually test it without moving stuff around (dp cables are 15 feet and through the wall. monitors are stacked 2 x 2 on stands)

if i cant find the adapter i will drag the cable.

eyefinity 6 on the 5870 which i had before runs 6x 2560 x 1600 which i have tested.

so its pretty lame if this only runs 6 x 1080p. it seems that it definitely cannot run 6x 2560 x 1600.

i thought prior to this issue that i would be able to get 2560 x 1600 on 5 displays and then 1080p on the last one.

That's what makes me think ASUS have hacked a dispaly controller together that really gimps that last DP for some inane reason.

at this point im going to say f it.

ill be reinstalling my 6870 cf set up and returing this pos.

too bad all those bitcoin miners are hoarding the 5870s.

i need more eyefinity 6 cards.

any ideas what single slot solution can drive 6 monitors at 2560 x 1600 besides the eyefinity 6 5870s?

i saw an eyefinity 5 5770 but after this experience i cant say that it would work.

thanks for the help.

i did read the manual and do see that the 4th dp is only active when the dvi is in single link.

even with the toggle set to single link the 4th dp wont run 2560 x 1600

ive rmaed the card.

at the bare minimum its not performing as described.

pretty frustrating.

Did they say that the 4th port should would pushing that resolution when the DL-DVI is set to SL-DVI mode? I mean there is 0 reason a DP output wouldn't be able to push a 30" resolution on its own. But something just just doesn't add up with that hardware design where the output of that DVI output is altered when sharing / not sharing with a DP output.

It just smells funny.
