Eyefinity + 5970 = complete PC upgrade?

Few questions..

Thinking about going to an Eyefinity setup using some of the 21.5" 1920x1080 monitors from Dell outlet. I'm contemplating either a 5870 or a 5970.

I'm running an E6600 @ ~3.2ghz. I know the tendency is to say 'if you're going to drop $1000+ on an Eyefinity setup, you shouldn't skimp on the CPU' but I've honestly not found a game I've played lately that has been really CPU bound. My real concern is driving the resolution with some decent video settings.

Does anyone truly think the E6600 is going to be a limiting factor? I haven't really found it to be on my PC right now at 1920x1200 (running 8800gtx today)

Second question..

Will a 5970 fit in a P182?

Think that's about it :)
 
The 5970 should fit as long as you remove the top drive cage.
[H]ard just did a review of the 6 port 2GB 5870.
You won't see the same results because of your CPU, but worth reading through to see the difference between the cards.

HD 5970 is benched against CF 5870 6, 5870 6 and a plain jane 1 GB 5870.
 
Some of those results are pretty scary, lower than I thought they would be. Makes me wonder if 3x 1680x1050 is more realistic :|
 
Read the Bad Company 2 page of that review. The admission of choppiness in CFX and eyefinity at lower than 50fps is really telling. My experience is that when the frames go low (below 60fps) the game feels way choppier than what the fps would suggest. Something like 40fps feeling like 20fps. Single screen is absolutly fine but eyefinity CFX is a mess. If the frames are higher than 60fps its a lot better but still there up to around 90fps.

Also if you plan to play Bad Company 2 definitely get a quad core. I game at 5760x1200 on mostly medium settings and my 3.6ghz quad probably averages 80-85% on all cores.

Getting a q9650 soon which I hopefully will have at 4-4.2ghz. Im really interested to see what that does for the game.
 
I've been playing BC2 on my E6600 and 8800gtx on mostly medium settings, it has been OK. I'm kinda thinking about just sticking with my current setup right now and picking up a 5850 and waiting for stuff to mature a bit, see where it goes.

I wouldn't mind grabbing a Q9650 either but it seems kinda pointless, if I'm going to drop $200-250 on a CPU, kinda feel like I might as well just get a 1156 setup.
 
Yeah might be worth a full platform upgrade. Considering your on a E6600 I'm guessing your board may not be up to OCing a q9650 very high.

Dunno, I haven't really looked into it that much.. I don't remember the exact model I'm on, some Asus P45 board.
 
If ur on a decent enough P45 board then that's good. You should be able to clock a Qxxx quad to 3.4ghz+ with little trouble. That coupled with a 5870 would be a good combo for BC2.
 
I was able to get my old q9650 to 3.4 no problem. That was just on air with a stock intel cooler before I went to my cooler master v8.
