Best just to get a "normal" card I think... otherwise you'll have to buy a couple of pricey adapters or cables. DVI/HDMI cables cost next to nothing.
 
I'm not sure if this has been brought up, kind of skimmed a lot and it doesn't look like it has, but this sounds like it is for work and not for gaming, am I correct? If so, you really don't need a gaming card. Nvidia and amd both sell workstation graphics cards, someone earlier on the first page linked to a NVS 420. That supports up to 4 monitors.

You mentioned you wanted a quiet card, well these workstation cards will be much quieter. This one averages 18 watts. Thats much much lower than what gaming cards average. Plus gaming cards have bigger fans which could result in more noise. Plus these workstation cards could possibly be cheaper. Anyway, just trying to help and offer more solutions.

Yes it's not for gaming. The scan configuration for this particular system (though I'm sure I can email to ask for other cards) suggests http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-...pu-800mhz-480-cores-dl-dvi-dport-hdmi-passive as the only will support 3 monitors I think


I like the fact it's cheap too - the NVS 420 for example is very pricey!

This particular one is fanless, too. It's a high quality audio pc so I'm guessing these parts were chosen for a reason. It says on that page it's completely silent :)

Thanks again for the suggestion, if I do decide 4 monitors again then I'll look into those other options - however with my new workflow idea I only need 3 for as far as I can see :)
 
Bumping for a quick question save opening a new thread!

Just to recap I decided to settle for 3 monitors, no Eyefinity, extended desktop on a card with
1 x DisplayPort
1 x Dual Link DVI-I
1 x HDMI

The monitors have
1 Digital Visual Interface connectors (DVI-D) with HDCP
1 DisplayPort(DP)
1 Video Graphics Array (VGA)

I want one 1920*1200 and two 1920*1080. I just found a comment saying that above 1920*1080 requires a dual link DVI or something I don't understand...I just want to check that isn't a problem here. I know the card says dual link DVI but I don't know if there are other factors
My instincts tell me it's not because I could plug the larger screen into the Display Port. However, I don't know if DP also has such issues.

So I can do;
DisplayPort>DisplayPort 1920*1200
Dual Link DVI-I>DVI-D
HDMI>....Hmm, what should I do here? Didn't think of that!
 
I'm in the same boat right now trying to figure out what to get as far as extended desktop for 3 displays. glad i came across this topic and hopefully some more good info soon.
 
Your third monitor must have something other than a VGA port, don't think I've seen any 1920x1080 monitors (non-CRT) with just a VGA port.

Your first 2 monitors are connected fine. You don't need to worry about dual or single link DVI at your resolutions. DP has an even higher bandwidth than DL DVI.
 
I meant the monitors are all the same and have all those 3 ports on each :)

So how would I connect the final (HDMI) output on the card to one of those three options on the monitors?
 
Get a HDMI -> DVI cable and you're sorted (much cheaper than going HDMI to DP)
Basically HDMI is the same as DVI but also carries audio.
 
Sweet! Cheers. All sorted then - just need to confirm with the computer company when they build it that this video card will definitely have those ports. I don't like the fact that various cards with the same name can vary..Makes me unsure what I'm doing haha.
Just curious why that is? Is it because the NVIDIA XY or ATI XY just defines the chip that was used, and everything else is up to the third party brand?

Yeah pretty much, Nvidia/AMD make a reference card then the vendors can make different versions with different coolers, PCBs or connectors. The chip itself is exactly the same for each model number.
 
I run 4 monitors (1920 x 1200) in extended mode via an ASUS DCII 6950 which has the same output configuration as the 7970 DCII

monitors all connected via their DVI inputs
at video card - 2 x DVI and 2 x displayport to DVI ACTIVE adapters

Well sorry for the necrobump :D

I have this PC now with an EVGA GTX570 HD. Just one monitor right now, but today I've come across MANY sources which state that Nvidia cards simply CANNOT support 3 monitors without 2 cards no matter what connections...

That seems very contradictory to the info I received in this thread..Now I'm not sure what to do :(
