External sound card

I got an extremely good price on this $239 CAD for the unit and a pair of Teac LS-H70A speakers were included. I don't really have a use for the speakers so I'm hoping to sell them. So far I have nothing but good to sa about it.

Amazing price. I think mine came to around $450-500 CAD after USD to CAD conversion and duty fees for the magni/modi uber Bstock combo.

I know its only stereo but fiio e10k is fantastic for headephones and support line out to my speakers too.
No drivers, no problems.

I just had to use pci usb card because usb on my motherboard was causing problems like audio cut off.

IMO, get an external DAC that offers TOSLINK digital input, then use the motherboard onboard sound, running an optical digital cable from your onboard sound to your external DAC. That way you would avoid any finicky USB issues.

....S/PDIF can carry 20 bit uncompressed PCM. Good luck /ever/ discerning that from any "higher end" format in a double blind. And I do mean ever. That said, can USB do better, assuming you don't have ground hum issues? Yes.

Just multi-channel. As silent-circuit noted, stereo can be full-fat PCM.
