External PSU... good idea?

I am slowly working on specing out a new rig for the Christmas season and Crysis. I recently had an SLI rig that ran fine, but did pump out quite a bit of heat. In building my next machine, I figure I might want to go external with some stuff like eSATA harddrives (with a nice NexStar case) and maybe yanking the PSU out. I do plan on going SLI or XFIRE and some Core Duo 2 at least.

I know Jonny did a review a while back of an external PSU, and it performed quite well if I recall correctly. I think the cables were kida rigid which could suck..

My questions;

Am I barking up the wrong tree? Seems like a good idea to me anyway.
What does the future hold for external PSU's? Any good ones on the horizon?
If the next round of vid cards require external power bricks, I bet I won't need a 600W PSU?!?! If so, I may not need to worry about it.

That is the one that Jonny reviewed I think. I was looking around for the review earlier and couldn't find it on a cursory glance.

Glad you like it. But is the cable long enough that I could put it next to (on the desk) a full tower case?

well i personaly don't have this specific one i was just saying that the brand is a good one. But i would imagine you could sit next to and they should reach. I went to a microcenter near a while back and took this one out ot the box and the cables that go from the power supply to the plate that goes in the cases psu hole are pretty long.

No. Look at the pictures at the end of the review. The cables are barely 18" long. It can only go on top.
