Hi there

I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200.B 250GB HDD in an external USB2 enclosure.

Unfortunately about 3 days ago it suffered a small 50cm fall onto a very wooly carpet. I would never have assumed that that would be enough of a bang to cause hassles - but it was spinning at the time.

What happens now is that when I plug the drive in and power it up (the light on the enclosure comes on and the HDD starts spinning) the PC it is connected to acknowledges that a pnp usb2 device is connected, can tell that it is a mass storage device, and says that it can safely be disconnected. It does not list the drive under My Computer/Computer though.

I'm guessing some form of recovery is needed, but my desktopis set to RAID 0, so i don't think i can just plug in an extra IDE drive? And obviously my notebook is out of the question.

How then should I set about trying to resurrect the contents of the damaged drive? Should I find a mate who's got an IDE bay in a desktop? Am I wasting my time? Should I freeze/bang/dismantle the Seagate HDD? Should i pay a service company to recover?

Any advice would make my year! Thx guys.

first u have to test it in another pc, thru the IDE connector if possible, if it doesn´t work, then u might try a recovery company to get your pr0n back :p
