Extending wires

Okay... I'm a little preterbed now... the SATA wires on my PCP&C Power supply are too short to reach the drives the way I want to route them.

I've heard using extenders costs Amps or Volts or something. Is that true?

What about if you cut the wires, splice in another 8" of wire?

If there's no signifigant reason to not use extenders, has anyone ever seen SATA extenders that are SATA > SATA instead of SATA > 4-pin Molex?

Thanks in advance!
