The table was rigged. The CPU is not what explodes...

There's a fire cracker under the board blowing the CPU out of a cut up socket. Yippie!!

They made a bunch of these. I have a couple saved at home. My favorite is one where they 'blow up' an AMD chip, and just the dialogue had me rolling.

"Oh, there is a fan failure!"

"This is extreme, it is too, too extreme"

After the first time I heard that I was walking around my house saying "too extreme" with a bad french accent for a month.

(you would think the BOMB watermark wouldn't sorta clue you in that it's rigged)

Yeah I like how easy the heat sink comes off and the sound a burning fuse

There is a trick that you could make windows and cpu info say a diffrent clock speed

Why would a CPU explode, anyway?

Its more likely to ignite than explode... a CPU has no volatile materials in it at all, just materials that'll heat up extraordinarly hot and melt, perhaps ignite.

Thats like saying "OOHH, LEMME HEAT UP WATER AND MAYBE IT'LL EXPLODE"

Or something more analogous, "LEMME HEAT UP PLASTIC AND MAYBE IT'LL BLOW UP MY HOUSE!" when in reality something a little less spectacular happens, such as deforming and a disgusting ass smell.

Well, actually pure water can explode. It's called superheating. And i think the same basic principal would apply. Just not in this case.
