DigitTimes says that, after a larger-than-expected drop in surplus inventory at the end of Q4 06, excess semiconductor stockpiles continued to decline in Q1 07.

Excess semiconductor inventories in the global electronics supply chain declined to US$2.5 billion in the first quarter of 2007, down 10.7% on quarter and represents a major decrease from the recent high-point for excess semiconductor inventory in the third quarter of 2006, iSuppli detailed. Surplus inventory in the first quarter was down by an impressive 40.5% compared to US$4.2 billion in the third quarter of 2006.
