Excel Help please! Dates showing up as five digit numbers?

Glancing through your linked thread, you already have the core of your solution. The key is the fact that you already know Excel stores dates as a 5 digit number. All you have to do to get it to display properly in a cell is to tell Excel to display that cell as a date.

Highlight the offending cell and choose Format->Cells... and then pick date out of the format list.

As a test, go to a blank cell and type in 12/7/1941.
Excel displays a date.
Now, keeping that cell selected, choose Format->Cells... and pick General as the format.
What do you see?
