How much FPS will this give me in doom3 with

-512 mb ram

-120gb HDD

-3000+ 64 bit athlon newcastle

- And do you think this is a good rig?

Also, what is a good Mother board for it that isnt to heavy on the pocket? (754 socket)
 
That is a great rig for Doom3, as you know the nVidia cards beat down most ATI cards in D3. I can't tell you what FPS, because you list no settings or anything. And really, no one can tell you. The benchmarks are out to reviewers, but no regular people. You'll be able to run at high settings no problem with that stuff.
 
Should be awesome with that 6800 card .. i have the 6800 GT EVGA and i love it .. I can't wait to play doom 3 .. i better get back to distraction of some kind before i get too excited again heh
 
 
My 5700 Ultra + opteron + 2GB RAM ran the beta fine, you've got clear sailing ahead:)

I'm thinking more on the side of Twenty-seven and one third unless he does a little tweaking to push over that ridge to get toe twenty-seven and a half.
 
u'll need more ram (1gb) for doom3, even bf1942, farcry loads up jerky with 512mb..
 
Meh, ill work on gettign enough money for 1 gb ram, my b-day is coming, if I get some unexpected cash, there ya go : ) Oh yeah and I have $500 from a job I did over july : )

And really only 27 fps? Thats very low, me thinks.....

Also another nooby question: I usually dont buy cd games, If I installed farcry on my laptop (not the comp Im building) could I uninstall it and put it on my custom computer once it is finished? (around august 15)

I thought it was common knowledge that the 6800's beat out the new ATI cards in Doom 3...just look at [H]ardOCP's front page Doom 3 thing and you'll see that.

To answer your below question, yes, I think technically you have the right to run your software on any machine you want, as long as it's only installed on that machine at that one time. Even if it is legal gray area, you won't have any problems.

Yeh, in Doom3 its like this currently:

6800U ($499) > 6800GT ($399) > x800xtpe ($499) > 6800 ($299) = x800pro ($399)

Note that you will have to run Doom3 at Medium Quality because of the 128mb of ram... though this will probably only have a minor impact on IQ due to the compression. High quality requires 256mb of video ram and Ultra High quality requires 512mb of video ram.
