Well, I'm a little puzzled to say the least.

It's a little humbling to be here in this position, but what's happening is beyond me.

If you look at the system in my sig you'll see that I'm not very well off for the time being, this will be changing in the next little while, but for now it's what I've got.

The Radeon 9250 overclocks not all that great, but it's passively cooled...and, well...it's a 9250. Aside from that, there's not a whole lot going on anywhere else in the system. The 512MB of total memory is comprised of a pair of 128MB sticks of PC3200, and a single 256MB stick of PC2100. The CPU is an AthlonXP 1800+ Palamino, the pally came out previous to the TBred core, and couldn't OC to save it's life. The motherboard has got to be the worst part of this whole equation. The SiS chipset it's built around is complete crap, offering limited memory timing/fsb options, and nothing in the way of voltage options. I haven't even been able to see how much (or little) this 1800+ will OC because of this board to boot. There is no PCI/AGP lock present, and 142fsb is the line where the PCI clock hits 36MHz...and I have next to nothing for stability.

Aside from the general suckiness (awsome english, I know) of the rig, here's what's happening...

I have settled on an overclock with the Radeon 9250 that is artifact free throughout my Aquamark3 benching. At a stock 133fsb and a clock on the video card of 290/180 I score a very small 10,485 in Aquamark3. After raising the fsb to 134MHz, my overall score drops to 10,262. Beyond that, raising the fsb to 140MHz (my limit for benchmarking) results in my overall score remaining very similar, at 10,295. It's strange, as the CPU score I'm given in Aquamark3 is increasing as it seems it would...but it's the graphics score that's declining as I raise the fsb. It's even stranger to note that 3DMark2001 sees the normal gains that you'd expect to see when raising the fsb...no issues are apparent, and things operate normally. So why then, is Aquamark3 being effected in this way...I have no idea.

At this point I'm simply assuming it's SOMEthing to do with this crapa$$ motherboard. My best assumption at this point is because there's no PCI/AGP frequency lock, the second I raise the fsb above 133, the PCI clock is going up 1MHz (which it actually tells me) and is throwing the card off or something, as that's exactly when my score in Aquamark3 starts dropping.

Ah well, might have a new board to play with soon, and I've never seen this happen with any recent setup, just wanted to see what some of you thought, and if I'm right in assuming that it's something with this oh so wonderfull SiS chipset. :p

lol sounds like my old gaming comp except with a 1700+ pally and 640Mb, 128 of generic PC133 and a 512 ultra pc133 ram, a GF 4 mx440 and a generic crap VIA mobo. no ram dividers, volts adjust and only FSB, no locks no nothin
