I want to build an ESXi whitebox and I am looking for assistance with picking out parts and also ensuring they are compatible with ESXi.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

I will be using this machine as an ESXi whitebox. It will be used for myself for learning purposes, nothing will be on it that is production or requries 24/7 availability.

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

I would like to keep it under $1000, but I have some flexibility.

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.

US Pittsburgh, PA. There aren't any Microcenters or Fry's nearby

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.

Everything required for the physical machine. Case, PSU, motherboard, RAM, CPU, Hard drives, USB drive for OS

I was thinking a 240GB SSD, 1TB HDD or greater and 32GB ram. If those specs are too high for the budget, I would be willing to cut back on RAM and purchase more at a later date.
The case is the least of my concern. The machine not be out in the open.

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

None

6) Will you be overclocking?

No

7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?

N/A

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

Within the next week or two.

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.

Compatibility with ESXi. Minimum of 4 SATA ports.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yes

You could do a 8350 and a 990fx motherboard with 32gb ddr3 and It would have passthrough.(IOMMU)
Put an SSD in there(or 2+) and it would be pretty fast. You can add a single/dual/quad intel network adapter in it.
