ESxi: network adapter - invalid backing ???

Quick question. I have copied a VM from ESX cluster, and imported it to my ESXi v5.0 server. I have booted the VM and it works.

But, when I look at the settings, I see
"network adapter 1 - invalid backing"

What does that mean? How can I solve this error? I want "bridged nic", yes?
 
Google for it? I did and it turned up a vmware KB as the first hit (not counting your post here.)
 
Ok, I solved it. The KB post did not help. I googled first.

The solution:
In the global settings for ESXi (not individual VMs), go to Network Settings at the top tab.
Edit Settings -> Network Connection -> Network label: (Change from " " to "VM Network")

Thus, there is a configured virtual switch. I need to tell the system to use it. If I dont, it says "invalid backing" on the NIC.
 
How were we to know? The vmware KB does describe the issue. Your OP gave no indication you had looked.
