ESXi Host chipset questions

So I ran across some documentation that got me thinking. The customer I was considering ESXi for does not have any HA requirement. He would have 1 host running 3-4 VM's.

So lets say two years down the road his server board bites the dust. As i understand it, the VM's load drivers based on the host chipsets. So its entirely possible i will be unable to get a new board with the same chipset, therefor having to rebuild my VM's?

The environment of this customer would allow us to be down for a full day while we got this back up and running. I hope i'm just mis-understanding how this works.
 
The VM's do not load the host chipset drivers. You are probably thinking about passthrough.
 
So i could migrate a VM from say an Intel host to an AMD host without any problems?
 
Vmotion - you can't live migrate vms between AMD/Intel boxes :) They have to be shut down first.

I didnt want to do it live, just as an example of hardware change on a failed host. Still good to know :)
