Error in POST clock speed reporting

I recently encountered a strange error while overclocking. If I take the HTT of my Sempron 2600 over 255MHz, the clock speed that is reported during the POST gets all messed up. At 260MHz HTT, the overall clock speed shows as 40MHz. At 256MHz, the overall clock speed shows as 8MHz. However, I can still boot into Windows and it runs just fine. The motherboard is a Chaintech VNF3-250. Is this something that I should be worried about, or should I just ignore it?

What does CPUZ report in windows with the overclock?

Also, what does speedfan say about your temperatures?

I've been able to get these chips closer to 280 on my girlfriend's cheap biostar motherboard, so they definitely have potential.

Maybe there's something about that "250" in the mobo name, but I doubt it.

PS: haha, 8mhz! I have a TI that runs faster than that :D (yes, It's overclocked too)
