Erroneous temps?

Motherboard:Shuttle AN51R
Cooling: Kingwin AWC-1 (liquid)
CPU: AMD 3400+ (newcastle)

My Bios tells me my CPU temp is 51C, which is a little high. The room temperature at the time was around 24C. I've remounted the CPU and CPU block several times, but still have the same readings. The reading never changes much from that temperature from the first 10 seconds it boots up to after 2 hrs of being on, the CPU temp stays around the same.

I've begun to think the reading is off because I've heard newcastles have had temperature reading issues in the past. But I haven't found too much proof at all online. Has anyone else heard this rumor as well?

Right now I plan on updating the bios once I can get a decent cd-drive on the system to install an operating system.

The newest bios update has these remarks:
1. Support K8 Sempron CG version 754 pin 1.8G CPU.
2. Support Cool'n'Quiet function for 3400+ and 3700+ CPU.

Perhaps number 2 is related to my problem?
 
If I have the liquid cooling system cooling both the VGA card and CPU, should the two temperature readings by each be close?

When I feel the copper part of the liquid cooling it feels warm to a little hot. The rubber tubing feels a little warm. Right now I'm only cooling the CPU.

That is what i have found. the temp sensor on my MObo is crap and it jumps all over the place, so i look at the GPU temp. and figure that the real temp. of my CPU is probably somewhere in the middle of the two.

I also like to check the temp. of my water because it can be an good indicatior or the real temp.( if your CPU is runnign at +50C your water will be pertty hot)

i also have a temp. probe from my koolance reportign the temps. it is on the CPU block so i use that as a reference and try to figure out what it could possibly be.

i just usually average them all and i think it is about right. :D
 
I often question the accuracy of most mobo temps. My Abit IC7-G says my ambient temp is 38c and cpu temp is 38c-41c. I could probably believe my cpu temp because my Asus board read my cpu at 29c and 23c case temp. I started to cool my 6800 Ultra GPU when I installed the Abit board so the 10c increase can be believable. Plus when I use cool bits it says my gpu temp and ambient temp is 41c. I have a hard time believing the ambient temp because 41c is around 105F. My computer is in the basement with both case sides off. It's 70F/21c in the basement meaning it would be 105F/41c inside my case? I don't think so. I would say at most 90F which would be 32C
 
Well after flashing my bios with the latest, my CPU temp is 7-10C lower. I'm not sure if it was the Cool'n'Quiet working or a fix in the temp reading itself. But this temp seems to be closer to what I should have.

Can anyone recommend a hardware monitor for windows? And will the hardware monitor read directly from the probes or does it calculate its own temp? For example, will Monitor A read a different temp than Monitor B on the same system.
 
Well, I'm using MBM 5.3.7.0 to monitor my temps. But I still find something strange. When I turn on my system and enter the bios to view the CPU temp, it usually reads ~41C, but when I enter windows, MBM reads ~38C. I've checked the temps with SiSoftware Sandra and they are the same as MBM.

Can anyone explain why this occurs?
