This is from www.ncix.com

Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb AGP VGA DVI-I TV OUT Retail Box - $516.32

Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb DDR AGP VGA DVI-I TV OUT OEM - $326.22

$190.01 difference because one is retail? Am I missing something? Like, is there anything I'm not going to get if I buy the OEM card as opposed to the retail one..

These are canadian prices btw.

Thanks

The only difference I know of is the shiny box...
hardly worth $190, US or Canadian...

ATI is in Cananda anyway, why are you guys getting ripped on the price?

You know, I'm really not sure. Maybe the Sapphire cards are just priced higher than the Built By ATI ones. I've never really looked at the Built By ATI prices, so I may be completely wrong on that. :p

But wow, for 190 bucks, I'll take the OEM one thanks. ;)

Yeah..I'd like to hope so.

Also, is that OEM one a good card? For 320some bucks for a 9800 pro is about 250 USD. I just hope I'm not gonna get ripped and end up with some SE card or something like that :(

I think newegg ships to canada and it will cost you around 215 bucks (for OEM sapphire + 18 for shipping) still cheaper than this shit!

Newp, Newegg doesn't ship to Canada. And that's about the best price I can find for it, beats the pants off all the local stores. Locally, a 9600XT is 300 bucks, built by ATI. 20some bucks more for a 9800 pro is an awesome deal in my eyes. My mouth is watering. Mmm, 9800 pro. :p But anyhow, the Sapphire will be a good card right? :D

I'm really not too sure, but from what I understand it wouldn't be worth shipping in from the USA due to duties and the such.

Edit: One other quick question. When you buy OEM, what do they ship it in? Just a plain white box, or something of the like?

Thanks again.

clear plastic, sometimes static bags with a CD.

no frills, same as if you were receiving it from a parts warehouse or distributor.

Its obvious you wont be going with the retail box. But fyi, retails come in the nice box, they usually come with some sort of cables and software bundle and normally they have a longer warranty than their oem counterparts. All of this is obviously not worth what the difference is on that site. Maybe $20 - $30 tops. OEM are just card, white box, driver cd.

The 9800 pro oem at NCIX is half retail lite, half oem. Read the support forums or email Greg about it. It comes with some cables and a driver disk.

There's a retail lite version for $321 on TigerDirect... but it's up to you if you want to get it shipped from them.

For a lot more buying info on a 9800 Pro in Canada right now, check these threads:

I am in the same position, please PM me if you find a better deal!!

also note that retail ones has better warranty ... sometimes when buying big ticket item(s) .... it's worth the extra $$$s ...

What does retail lite mean? You just get some of the stuff that comes in the retail box? If so, I'm not worried. I just want to know that I'm getting a "real" 9800 pro, and not a cheesey 9800 pro SE or some downgraded card like that.

Thanks :)

Watch out shipping electronics to canada from the US. I tried one time with a motherboard and ended up with a $100 brokerage fee that I really did not expect. Suddenly it was not such a good deal.
