My XP has shown everything load up (new 8800GT etc in the hardware popup) and then the Nvidia control panel said to load it up and enable sli, well i did and when i click apply a pop up comes up saying "To switch to SLI multi-gpu rendering mode, some applications need to be closed. Would you like to close those applications now?" Yes or No

I click yes and it Puts the dot back into "do not use SLI" box, and when i click no it does the same. And i have closed every application i have running..any ideas or help?

Guru3d.com driver sweeper, then get the latest betas and try again. I use laptopvideo2go.com forums to find Nvidia beta drivers, they get them fast and downloads are reasonably quick; get the modified INF from them and replace the original even if you shouldn't "need" it, as it just saves trouble.

Thanks, i got it working, i restarted the PC and tried it again, when i hit yes i guess it closed everything for me and now SLI is enabled. What program can i use to make sure the 2 cards are working how they are supposed to and putting out better results than just one 8800gt?

Well, 3dmark would work for that. Just run it with and without SLI enabled. Alternatively, you should be able to notice large difference in frame rates. You could also use EVGA precision to monitor temps, if only one card is getting hot, then the other isn't getting used. There are lots of ways.

Which 3dmark? i noticed there are a few and the newest you have to pay for.

any free one will do. all you want is something to spit out a number and then compare that number with and without SLI. Any version will do, although 3dmark06 is probably the easiest.

Thanks guys, im DLoading 3dmark 06 now , i have noticed in COD4 that my FPS is 60 and staying there compared to just one 8800gt where it would waver sometimes low to like 40fps.

Sounds good. If it's capping at exactly 60, then that's because you have Vsync enabled. If you disable it you'll see higher FPS, of course your monitor won't display any more frames than 60, but you'll have an idea of the difference.

You can also go into the nvidia control panel.

"To verify that NVIDIA SLI technology is enabled and working:

From the NVIDIA Control Panel navigation tree pane, under 3D Settings, select Set SLI configuration.

From the menu bar, click 3D Settings, then click the drop-down menu item Show SLI Visual Indicators."

Once you ativate the visual indicatior, when you are in a game you will see a green bar either horizontally across or rising and descending vertically. These bars indicate the load balence between the two cards. Once you're satisfied, just return to the control panel and turn off the indicator.
