Here is the situation. We needed to resurrect an old CX500 from the grave. We had to buy two new SPs, as both of the ones in this old SAN were fried. We got the SAN booted up at least, and we got to the Navisphere 6.x java client. Now we are faced with an unknown listed uner the Enterprise Storage tab. We are not sure if we need to initalize the new SP somehow, or what. If i go to 192.168.1.1/setup we just get page reset. We can, however, get to the 192.168.1.1/start.html for navisphere.

We are a netapp shop and this is the very first EMC any of us here have dealt with as it is before our time. THe last thing we want to do is accidentally initalize the whole system and wipe the drives. Anyone here been working on EMCs long enough to remember the proper steps to put a brand new SP in a cx500 when no other SPs are available and have it take ownership of the SAN? The OS/Flare seems to be fine as far as we can tell from afar. Thanks for any help!

The CX500 replacement procedure goes roughly like this.

1.Disable call home
2.disable write cache.
3. pull out defective SP
4. put new SP in and wait for it to boot.
5. verify LUN are on default owner and write cache is setup how it should be.

Are you able to access the GUI? If so screenshot the error.

You can also download navisphere cli and run commands against it. navicli.exe -h IP -user USER -password PASSWORD -scope 0 COMMAND (faults -list will give you all faults) any error lights on the storage processors?

you had to replace both SPs - you're now in uncharted territory from my end of the world. I've done singles (follow Shockey's guide), but both at once? That gets fun.

The information should be on the first set of disks in the system - either 2,4,or 6 of them, IIRC. Been a long time.

Do you have a screenie of the navisphere page (with the unknown)? I'll ping one of my EMC guys, see what they know.

Yeah if only it were that easy.
We are actually engaging EMC at this point. We are able to remote dial into the embedded XP on both 'new' SPs and both complain about not being able to access certain things on the D: drive, which we are assuming are part of the Flare OS on the disks. We can bring up Navisphere on both SPs but never can get to anypoint where we can add the array to it, or it even being recognized. We reloaded FlareOS on one of the SPs and still got nowhere. EMC at this point is thinking that there is some corruption somewhere on the Vault drives and i think we will be possibly having them rebuild our raid groups from scratch and hopefully not lose any data. We are just leaving it alone at this point and waiting for EMC to engage fully with us.

Appreciate the responses.

My disclaimer: My outline was for a working array :p You don't meet that criteria anymore.

we didnt meet that criteria from the first post. :)

basically we had water damage from an AC line that fried our cx500 that had been decommed for 3 years, disks were all deemed 'good' by an EMC tech, so we ordered all new enclosures/SPs based on their recommendation and went from there. Alas, we are back to needing their help to retrieve this data.(hopefully). Again, this was all before my time at this company and the folks who ran this old san are long gone.

If nothing else, call Kroll OnTrack - they'll get the data off, I guarantee it.

You're going to need EMC's help here.
