Email Purging

Just read that [H] is purging accounts with an inactive email account until August. My university email account that I originally used will be going offline soon. I have a Gmail account and beer email accounts. Would one of these suffice? Or do I need to hijack my Mom's email account (the account provided by our internet provider)?

Gmail is fine.

We are being less aggressive about blocking "free" addys (other than the obvious like hotmail and yahoo) because the confirmation process is in place. What's important is that an email to the addy in your profile not bounce.

I saw Kyle's announcement, and while he didn't go into detail, as far as I know, the only way to purge accounts for invalid emails would be via a test mailing to see what addys bounced. My guess is that is what he meant. If I'm wrong, he'll come give me the smackdown, for sure.

If you registered with a "disposable" addy, for example, it's going to bounce and your account will be suspended. You have a chance now to fix that before being purged.

My domain will be changing servers in the next week or so. Will I be screwed if I miss the mail to DNS transfer?

YOu need to have a working email address. That is the rule. If I catch your email in the thousands of bounced emails I get every hour, then your account will be suspended.

What will work is an email service that is tied to real addresses and ISP's, something that will render you responsible and traceable. This action is to end all of the out of date, no longer functioning, changed and free based email hosts with the prime reason being able to contact you if need be as per the forum rules. What is useable and what is not is impossible to list, but generally if it is free and you can make multiple accounts on that service, it won't be good here.

How many bounced emails does it take for an account to be suspended?
My email is hosted of my comcast connection that goes out at least once a week, and I have a subscription to a thread that is very busy.

And by suspended do you mean purged or a suspension that can be fixed with a working email?


edit: I went ahead and changed my email to my shitty shitty comcast email, but I would still like an answer to my questions

I dont know who started talking about "Purging" but there is NO purge going on.


I get tens of thousands of bounced emails every day. Most of these are because people subscribe to TONS of threads and select to be instantly emailed about the thread and DO NOT have a good email account.

I am just picking random bounced mails as they flood in and banning the accounts associated with them. Purging accounts with non working emails will be my next option. Basically we will reset every one to waiting for confirmation and you will get a new activation email. Obviously, if you don't get the mail, then we can junk those accounts, but that is a last ditch solution....bus it not far off.
