After lapping my CPU's IHS, I found that most of my sandpaper is now fairly smooth and worn out. It actually made the lapping a bit longer because the process would be lagged by the sandpaper which was getting less and less effective.

Has anyone found this to be true for the sandpaper in easypckits? The 400 and 600 grits wore out the quickest.

Are there better lapping solutions out there?

Yep; ACE Hardware, Autozone, Sears, Home Depot, Lowes.. They all carry "lapping kits" ;) Heck, even wal-mart and k-mart sell good 3M sandpaper! The effect you describe is simply how sandpaper works... If it wears down and you still think you need more work with that grit, switch to a fresh piece and keep going!

But which sandpaper lasts longer? One time use sandpaper isn't really worth the cost.

High grit sandpaper will get full of whatever you're sanding, there's no way around it.

As opposed to what other kind...all sandpaper is one time use

well aparently his were "half time use" since it only got the job half done ;)

caugh caugh wet paper! with flowing water.... ...

do it at you own rish and you better make sure than CPU is dry before running it... (IE. compressed air dry it then let it sit for a day)
