Ive been a AMD user for quite awhile now. for many gaming systems..
im soon building a new rig for someone. they casually play games, but surf the internet. would HT be usefully for them so they can run many windows at once...or will the p4 Athlon XP make no difference?
because p4's are cheaper then the A64 i was looking at

this person surfs the internet, and sometimes plays the sims 2
would the p4 be the way to go?

I think a P4 with HT should suite them just fine under the given situation. That sounds like the exact situation my GF has, internet, the Sims 2 and too many *.Tycoon games to count and her system has a P4 2.53Ghz ES, 512MB PC3200 and a 9600Pro. Does the job rather nicely.

ok cool, yea i lost faith in intel... but reading about its better multitasking..and the price is cheaper.
but if it came down to a AMD64 3200+ 939 or p4 not quite sure what to compare it to...

Yup P4 would do that nicely, and you cna play game and burn Cd at the same time.

And an A64 can't? Please. The difference between processors for minimal multi-tasking is small. Its for the really intensive stuff that the difference is noticed. Again its not like A64's can't do it. Its just the P4 w/HT will be more responsive under heavier load.

If you went with an Athlon X2 or Dual Opteron setup, you'd find it works as well if not better than an Intel SMP or dual core setup. All dual core and true SMP systems slap the P4 w/HT around pretty hard in multi-tasking.

An additional note, Roxio Easy Media/DVD/CD Creator sucks ass. Its the biggest and most bloated pig of a program for CD/DVD creation. If your using that shit, a Hyperthreading capable P4 is a must. Or some kind of dual core CPU if you intend to do anything while that pile of crap runs.
