Early 4870 Avail

Are the 4870 1gb version supposed to release alongside the 512mb version?

F that. Newegg had it for $309 for a short while.

Grim: Really, really doubt it. 4870 supplies are constrained by the supply of GDDR5, not the GPU so manufacturers would most likely rather sell 2 512MB cards than 1 1024MB card. I haven't seen a single supplier announce a 1GB version for 4870.

They'll be out later (I'd put my money on July). 512 MB seems to be more than enough for this card, though. Who knows, doubling the RAM on a HD 4870 might be like doubling the RAM on a 8800 GT (aka useless for most practical applications).

The 4870 gets quite close to the 280 in quite some games in 16/1920, but at 2560 lack of video RAM tapers its competitiveness.
