I did my first OC recently and was able to get my E8400 to 4Ghz on 3.7v (440FSB). My problem is my temps seem a bit high. From Core Temp I'm seeing 48/45 on idle and 64/58 on full load. It never goes past those thresholds and they stay steady. I have tried to redo my thermal paste by using less and still see the same Temps. Asus Probe shows 39, Speed Fan is generally around 40 or so. MB is 40ish as well.

So my question is what other things can I do to get this lower? I know this is within range still so did I just get a hotter chip? Just wondering if I should be worried. I have done 12 hours of prime testing and it is completely stable. Thanks for any input..

My system specs are:

e8400 OC 4Ghz
Thermalright 120 Extreme + 120 Scythe Flex Fan
PC Power and Colling 750 Silencer
Asus Maximus Formula
Antec 900 Case (All fans on high)
Muskin Memory 1000 x 4Gig (2v)
ATI 3870x2

is there a fan, or 2, directly behind the HSF sucking warm air out of the case?
you could of course put a more powerfull fan on the HSF but then you add noise.

but imo i wouldnt worry. those temps are normal and how often are you going to hit full load on both cores 24/7 anyways? stop worrying and enjoy your nice setup. ;)

Yes a 120mm is right behind the processor. The air coming out of the case is warm at best. Also the heatsink is pretty cold when you touch it.

I guess I'm just being paranoid. Maybe your right and I should just relax and enjoy my new system :). A temp in the 50s on avg doesn't seem bad.

Thanks for the help!
