E8400 Bottleneck

I have My E8400 at 3.6. I game at 1920x1200 with 2 AAF. IS my 4870 x2 being bottlenecked by my cpu?

no very likely as the 8400 can still hold its own. What game or games are you playing

Hell no, If my E5200 @ 3.8ghz to 4.3ghz does not effect performance with a saphire 4870x2, im sure 3.6 on a E8400 is not.

But then again i played with the card @ 1680 res, but if i recall at higher resolutions a better gpu comes in play.

I play Fallout 3, L4d, Far cry 2, Some Crysis......basically all the new games!

If you expect improvements go quad... otherwise i dont think a dual at that speed or more is gona yield you better results

You'll be fine with that for another year. btw, I got my E8400 at 4.1 on air.
Of course I want to go i7, but can't afford it right now...

Same boat here, The deals that have been going around make i7 somewhat affordable to me right now.

Im thinking of just purchasing a Q9650 from a friend for $200 with my old 939 cpu, but it will be an overkill for me

Also op, Why just 3.8ghz? Try pushing it more, if it can take more under what you consider safe 24/7 voltages and get more than decent temps, why not?

Well I tried to hit 4.0. Just upped the CPU Voltages. But I bumped it up to 1.3625 Volts and It didn't pass any of my intel burn tests. I have no clue about all the other voltages (Link) and how to use them. Also I have no clue about laodline (I enabled it) But i hear it deteriates my 45nm E8400

You need to figure out what kind of VTT (FSB Term.) and NBv you need to hit 445FSB. Shouldn't be much, but I know that this stuff varies between boards.

Once you know, then just boost CPU vcore - but do that as a last resort.
