hey guys,
ive been browsing around here for news and oc info/tips
i started to try and oc myself,

these are my specs:
CPU: e6750 G0-stepping
Mobo: Gigabyte P35-DS3R
Ram: 2GB Ballistix Tracer 800
Heatsink: Stock but idling low 30s on default.

So this is what I've tried but I cannot break 3.2 GhZ no matter how hard I try. I've tried upping the northbridge voltage by +0.2. I also tried to get the CPU to 1.6V but don't want to go any further. I've lowered my RAM multiplier as well.

Any advice on what I should do to break 3.2G?

thanks in advance

I've tried that.

For some reason, I can overclock better now than I did 3 months ago. I'm going to 3.5 w/ 1.48 V!!! I seem to get errors after that though.

I idle 50 and peak 70.

70s bad right? Btw these are degrees celsius.

Those temps look too high. Try another HSF. I have nearly the same config, but an Ultima 90 with Scythe S-Flex F 120mm. Idles around 34, peak at 56 at 3.4 (8 X 425) 1.35V

For me I know it's not the temperature problem. Yes it is a bit high but I will get a TRUE soon. I guess I have a bad chip then?

Maybe. That sucks. :( Oh well, perhaps it's Nature's or Intel's way to say, 8400 upgrade...

FSB + 0.1
MCH + 0.1

VCore 1.53 For 3.4 (Which on my board was 1.44 after droop)
VCore 1.56 For 3.6 (Which on my board was 1.47 after droop)

Ya may need to go a little higher depending on your Vdroop and Vdrop

Should be all you need up to 3.4. I had my 965-S3 And Xeon 3075 (Same CPU) to 3.6 on that board after 3.4 I had to add FSB +0.2

Just make sure your ram timings are loose enough until you get up there, then tighten them later. Did you also try 1:1 (2.00) for ram, and high speed setting 2?

How about your northbridge temps ? I know my northbridge heatsink gets too hot to touch sometimes and got the occaisional crash. I've added a small fan to it and am stable at 3.5 ghz @ 500 fsb, ram 1:1.

Should he put PCIe @ +0.1?
Also remember to set PCIe frequency to 100-103!! You don't want your board to overclock your vido.

Try putting the max voltage on memory too to rule out memory problems.

Yes PCIe +.1 I didnt add that, guess I should not have assumed. I use 100 or 102 for the lock

Yeah, I also added a Cooler (Extreme Spirit II) to my NB stayed way cool then. If you have a good fan I think you will be ok.

I used 8 multi X 450 to get 3.6, Less heat to the NB that way, if you use 7 you have to use 514 to get 3.6

My NB was about 44 or so with stock at 3.4, I never did 3.6 until after I had my cooler, but it was here the same week, so I dont know but I would think it may get to hot to do 3.6 without at least a fan. Which you have so you should be ok

You may need to go over 1.5-1.55 in the bios for vcore to get up and over Vdrop and Vdroop at load to keep it stable, if you have a good HSF you should be ok. Keep a eye on temps though

I have heard of some of these boards needing a few bumps over 1.55 to even keep 1.46 after Vdroop at load.

As long as you temps are ok, you can try to go over 1.5-1.55 just keep a eye on those temps. If you end up getting way over 1.5 with no luck stop there cause your chip may just not do 3.6

Are you using the latest BIOS? Just wondered because I just got a P35-DS4 rev 2.1 and it has Vdroop options (Load Line Calibration) in the bios

Here is the only image I have with some voltages showing from my S3 at 3.6, I believe I may have had to take it a bit higher to keep stable, I dont remember though.

If I remember right, to get here at idle was 1.49 idle, 1.46 load at actual BIOS setting was 1.56-7 and I still had to go a tad above that
