is the e6700 (which i have) basically a e6750 with different default clock settings? ie is the e6700 basically an e6750 with a more unlocked multiplier? I've been dropping the multiplier on mine and upping the fsb because I have a 1333MHz mainboard? am I on the right track or is the e6750 essentially a different chiP??? i'm currently running it at 360x9 100% stable will I achieve better speeds with a 4??x8????

From my understanding the E6750 simply has a higher front side bus, 1333MHZ.

yes i know that the e6750 is factory clocked to 1333MHz fsb i dont know how that relates to the 333*8 but it..... (currently my fsb is sitting at 1440MHz i think)

WTF?? The above quoted sentence literally, made me dumber, please elaborate

um... i wish I could... but I'm not sure how to...

ok i've taken a e6750 out of the box here at work and set it up and its 333x8 = 2.66GHz with a FSB of 1333MHz (i can't overclock other peoples computers). but take my e6700 it comes out of the box at 266*10 = 2.66GHz with a FSB of 1066MHz ... I've got my chip clocked to 360x9 = 3.24GHz with I presume a FSB of 1440MHz... but FSB is written everywhere with different numbers and it really gets a bit too confusing ...

im really not sure how they get that 1333MHz number.. it's 4x the CPU core speed but I don't exactly know how this relates.

but really all im trying to find out is whether to treat my e6700 as a e6750... ie at the resources I look at to overclock

Well I guess I'll just have to drop the multiplier to 8, up the fsb above 400MHz, get stuck into Colin McRae DiRT and find out for myself.... 400x8 sounds nicer than 360x9

The clock speed is the same, the mulitplier is different.

e6700 has a mulitpler of 10 and runs on a fsb of 266 (effective fsb speed is 1066)
266fsb x 10 = 2.6ghz

e6750 has a mulitpler of 8 and runs on a fsb of 333 (effective fsb speed is 1333)
333fsb x 8 = 2.6ghz

Running at a higher FSB doesnt give much of a real world performace boost.
Personally I would much rather take advantage of the e6700s multiplier of 10. And run the board at its stock speed of 333fsb (1333) and have the chip OC'ed to 3.3ghz. But thats just me.

I OC'd for a while with the 10x multiplier and I can't say with certainty that I can keep it stable at 333x10 where I can boot into windows at 366x10 even 333x10 seems to crash sometimes (320x10 is perfectly stable though)... I'm not certain though it could just be that games I have played are dodgy..

but i guess it's a bit hard to tell whether 320x10 is better than 360x9 when nothing skips a frame ever... lol..

oh and btw 400x8 failed miserably..:p
