E6600 vs E8400?

I'm sure this must've been asked before but the search is still down so please bear with me. I have an E6600 coming in to me soon but after some thought, I'm wondering if I should just go with a new E8400 instead. I do mostly Photoshop work with CS3 and some video editing and encoding with CS3 as well but I also do a little bit of gaming with HL2 and Bioshock. What would you guys recommend doing? Both would probably be OC'd and cooled by a TRUE 120. Also if it helps any, this computer probably won't be replaced for another 6-18 months.

The E6600 was discontinued and replaced with the faster E8400. At this point, there is no reason to buy any of the slower, discontinued E6xxx CPUs unless you can get one of those Frys clearance deals (i.e. E6600 for $60).

If you do a lot of video editing and encoding, you may want to opt for the quad-core Q6600 instead. A E8400 @ 4.0GHz will be faster than a Q6600 @ 3.6GHz in Photoshop and most games, but much slower for most video encoding applications.
 
Unless you can find a really sweet deal on that E6600, I'd consider trading it for a E8400 or upgrading to a Q6600. I'm happy with both.
 
Or you could pick up an E6600 used for cheap.
Thanks to a kickass AT forum member, I got in on a cheap E6600 ($75). Running dual Prime95 with 3.6GHz @ 1.360 (1.408 non-droop) right now :D
 
Thanks for the recommendations guys, I didn't realize the E6600 was yesterday's news already. The last time I checked in, it was one of the better OC C2Ds! I didn't get it for those crazy Fry's prices but I got a decent deal on it so I think I'll try it out and see how well it overclocks and if I'm not happy with it, I'll sell it on eBay and go with something else. If I can get the E8400 for around $200 shipped I'll go that route, if it's more, I might just pick up a Q6600. To be honest though, I'm coming from a 560J Prescott though so any C2D will be blazing for me and I'm not sure if I can justify spending twice as much on the E8400, especially since I'll be leaving this computer at home if I fly away for college.
