So I've got pretty much everything I need for my new build except my motherboard and processor. I know which motherboard I'm going with, I just now need to determine what to stick into it. This will be geared towards gaming. Titles in question will include Crysis, COD4, STALKER, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Frontlines: Fuel of War, and others. I will have the following:
Antec Nine Hundred
OCZ 700W GameXStream PSU
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L (northbridge cooled with Thermalright HR-05/IFX for max FSB potential)
2x1GB G.Skill PC-10000 DDR2
EVGA 8800GT SSC 512MB (cooled with Thermalright HR-03 GT to keep it from becoming one of the large number of RMAed versions of these cards)
X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatality Edition
My question is, assuming a planned overclock of at least 3.2-3.6, more if possible, what processor would get me the best value without being a bottleneck to the 8800GT? Would an E6600 max it out? Or do I need to look to a 6850 or even wait on an 8400 to get more insurance that I hit 4GHz? Where would the CPU sweet spot be?
