So I've got this Rev2 DS3 that from the beginning, took substantially more voltage to achieve the same overclock as my previous Rev1. Ran fine for several weeks and then started BSOD'ing and crashing constantly even though it was 24-hour Orthos stable and I continually backed it down before giving up and running it stock for the last 6 months. Last week I kicked it up to 8x333 and ran it for 29 hours, no problems. Went in to bump it up to 8x360, hit F10 to save, and the screen goes off and the system never reboots. I power it off, boot back up, and all my settings are the same except it has set the host clock control back to 'auto' (stock clocks). I reset to optimized defaults, reboot, and try 8x360 again, saved it, and get the long beep of death and the system shuts off. Boot it back up and as before, its set the clock control back to 'auto'. I reset again and settled with 8x333 and its been running fine for a few days now, but its got plenty more than that and I can't figure out why this peice of garbage motherboard is doing what its doing. Any ideas?

Whats your voltage at? You probably need more CPU voltage to raise the FSB higher.

BTW, when your OC fails, it automatically lowers the FSB so the system can reboot. If its a ram setting that failed the POST, you'll have to clear CMOS. To make OC'ing easier, you can restore/save OC settings using F11 and F12.

I'm at 1.35v right now at 8x333. Last time it ran over 3ghz it was, I believe 1.38v, but as mentioned, it went AWOL there after a while. It was even crashing when I left it at 1.38v and backed down to 2.6-2.7ghz.

Add more voltage.. thats not much voltage at all. Ive done a couple gigabyte boards with that same processor. One would do 3.2 at stock voltage and the other required 1.4V. I did not even look at the revisions I had at the time. You can run that voltage up to 1.55 and higher as long as you can keep it cool. Like the other poster said.. did you adjust the memory devider so the memory isnt being driven to high and did you add any extra voltage to the memory? I believe it defaults at 1.8V and Ive had to do +0.3V to the last one I built to get the required 2.1V his memory needed to run at. This can cause all kinds of BSOD. Are you only running small fft's in Orthos? If so your mostly stressing the CPU and not the memory. Im just gathering my own assumptions so ive im wrong forgive me :D. You should be able to do 8x400 easily with that chip. Double check your memory timings also.

If I'm not mistaken, the G.Skill HZ sticks need 2.2v and have Micron D9GMH chips. Therefore, make sure your RAM voltage is set to +0.4v.

I agree, you should hit 3.2Ghz easily. For my rev2.0 ds3 and E6400, I only needed one level above 1.325v for the CPU voltage. As Copyright mentioned, you can go up to 1.55v as long as you keep the load temp below 60°C. Try 1.4v for your CPU voltage and see if that helps (for 8 x 400).

The memory is 2.1v for 800mhz and it always ran fine there. I'm not saying you're wrong about the vcore, but I don't understand why it would suddenly take so much more voltage than before to achieve the same or less overclock. The Rev1 DS3 only needed 1.35v for 3200.
