Alright I had it at 100% OC for half a year now and stable. Idling around 32-33C. I've always wanted to push it more but last time I tried it was slower somehow and I couldn't comprehend it. I used Super Pi and tested at 1MB, results were: 3.2GHz at 19sec 3.4GHz at 23sec with some rounding. I have minimal startup applications and drivers. Although I do have Outpost and NOD32 running even though that should made a difference. Anyway my stats:

Intel E2140 P Dual Core 3.2GHz
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
OCZ 2x2GB at stock speed/timings
Arctic Freezer Pro 7
8600GT OC'd with zalmann fan(super beefy)
160GB IDE
SATA DVD Burner
and I think a 450w Thermaltake PSU

Please post any comments, I would really love to raise the speed and push my compy to it's limits.
 
I'm not an overclock, but I'm going to take a guess, and I want to see if I'm right.. does this have anything to do with Vdroop?
 
Damn, I looked it up and it seems I either need a new mobo with a droop mod or just get a liquid cooling system and hope to get the temps lower so the cpu isn't as stressed
 
or an E2180 which has a multiplier of 9 instead of 7...
 
Pushing an E2140 past 3.2 GHz is a stretch, anyway.
You're already at a 100% Overclock.

You've got a great rig there, no need to do much if anything to it. All your components were very well thought out. I wouldn't fall into the "hype" trap of the 45nm's like some people suggested. 4X+ the price, and nowhere near even dreaming of 4X+ the performance gain.
 
I think you are going to need to hook up a flux capacitor to your rig to get much more than a %100 over clock out or any processor. That way you can send yourself the superpi results back in time to before you start the run, saving yourself the hassle of even needing to do the run.

Not happy with a %100 overclock? My how the C2D chips have spoiled us these days.:rolleyes:

Switching from a P4 to a C2D is really something but I guess you get power hungry when you feel it has more potential. What does the X10 or X8 multiplier have anything to do with the drawbacks of vdroop? Is it honestly going to give me more speed if it has a higher multiplier...
