My main hard drives windows xp crapped out. Through that version I formated and backed up all my information on this 250gb hard drive. When I took a new hard drive and installed windows on it, it could not access the backup hard drive. Turns out that its in dynamic mode (i guess because of its size). I booted the old hard drive in safe mode and it can see and access the backupdrive fine. My question is how the hell do I get the new hard drive to recognize my backup drive.
Thanks on your help ...

Start > Run > (Type) diskmgmt.msc > RClick DynamicDisk > Import Foreign Disk

Dynamics Disks are like a really unintelligible dialect of your own language
there are extremely few reasons to ever employ them, (software RAID is one)
unfortunately once you got one they are also really hard to get rid of,
well if you want to keep the data on them that is
pull that info off, while you have the space to do it, and delete the partition (or RClick revert)
then repartition and reformat it, then place whatever you want back ;)

thanks on the info
ill try that and see if it shows up in windows
my plan is to get a DVD burner
and burn everything off it that is not found on my main drives
then format and chill back while 250gb worth of data is copied back on it

I have already been in the disk management
but the thing is that I am unable to get the dynamic disk to be readable
i looked at the help and the only explanation they had is that the hard drive is not working, bull$#!^ I said
right clicking on the drive does not produce a menu to Import Foreign Disk.... damn it

will partition magic help me with this in any way ?

nope but diskpatch likely would
http://www.diydatarecovery.nl/

or knoppix
http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html
1. Create a bootable Knoppix CD via ISO available on the site
2.Using the CD, it will hopefully recognie the partition and
3. Allow you to export the data

OK I made an assumption and we need to rule it 0ut
1. I assumed that since the disk was "upgraded" to dynamic disks, it was done so via XP Pro
2. I assumed that your now trying to access it again from XP Pro

XP Home wont do Dynamic Disks

how it "should" go

basically what I said above

thanks a bunch on the suggestions. I redid my power lineup in my room and suprizingly the computer goes into windows without a problem. I can recognize the dynamic disk now and hopefully get everything in sync before I go off and format the backupdrive and get it to be basic

thanks for your suggestion tho, if shi*t happens I know where to go to get help
