dx10 from ati, when?

I don't ever remember having any problems with my 9700. Popped it in and it worked fine. Still works great.

With the specs we've seen leaked on R600 so far I'd say it's doubtful that performance will be very close to G80. When you have potentially double the memory bandwidth you'd have to imagine they designed the chip to actually make use of it. And with R600 being a second generation unified architecture I'd have to imagine most of the bugs have been somewhat ironed out.

The big question is what exactly ATI did that is making the card DX10.1 compliant.
Since people are still responding to a thread started by a troll...

What crystal ball are you using? You judgements are based on "leaks"??

And are you referring to that article by the Inquirer when you mention DX10.1? You're going way down the mystical roads there bro.

I'm going by beyond3d. They "confirmed" the 512 bit bus, there have been a couple die shots released so we have a rough idea of the size. I can't remember where I saw the 10.1 comment but there were old rumors of it showing up somewhat soon after DX10. There were some other comments alluding to it but nothing concrete so I guess "possibly DX10.1 compliant" might be better wording at this point.

I don't trust anything from the inq. Don't even follow their crap.

The rest of what I said is just simple math. Numbers for G80 are well known and 512bit*1.2GHz is about double the bandwidth of G80. And the memory could easily be faster than 1.2GHz GDDR4. And I'd say it's fairly safe to assume that if they add more bandwidth they at least designed some way to actually use it.

And since ATI already released one unified architecture, if they released another one that should be second generation unless my addition is somehow wrong.

Don't believe the 10.1 crap. Right now that would be a complete waste of transistors.

I don't even know the 10.1 spec but I know there has been suggestions of an S3 10.1 card and the R700 being compliant. who knows, i want to see the r600!

People are buying the 8800s because of their current superb DX9 performance, and people will likely do the same for the R600. Both of these cards will run the new DX10 games well.

Yes, the first gen dx9 cards ran dx9 games fine, but for dx10 are standards are higher. many of us, myself included, own 24" or larger LCD's. I would be very very very surprised if these first round dx10 cards can run the 'big' dx10 games at 1920x1200 or higher, with over 4xAA at over 60fps.

So yea, they'll run the games, but so what? I can run oblivion on a x800, but that doesn't mean i'd be happy with it.

I think it's also do to how fast Nvidia seems to be releasing there cards. That pretty much started with the 7950's that hit, then a bit latter the 1950XTX. It didn't enjoy much time in the spotlight cus literally right after that, the 8800's hit. You can almost sense as soon as the first batch of R600's drop, Nvidia will have those finetuned 8800's hitting shelfs, or off numbers, like 8850's hit right after that. That seems to be there strategy atm instead of going head to head in release dates like it did the past few gens.

Im going to agree with others about waiting out the first couple rounds out as far as DX10 is concerned. It would be my luck to drop $600.00 on a 88.x/R600(mainly for DX9 perfomance) only to get lackluster performance on DX10 titles and then a 6 months later a card comes out that offers 50%+ increase in DX10.

Agreed. The R600s, as good as they might be, are going to be full of bugs and problems (700 million+ transistors has plenty of room for problems, plus the new 512 bit memory bus, etc.)

According to whom? Im not saying it cant happen but you cant say that as they are not out yet. We dont know what ATI has been up to. For all we know they been tweaking the card for some time now. Just because ATI is "late" doesnt mean they arnt going to deliver.

I agree.
Coming to the party late usually means they have had time to iron out bugs. It's very similar to game devs. What would you rather have? A game 1 month sooner with tons of bugs, or a game 1 month later with a nice layer of polish and refinement.

Indeed there is wisdom in being late sometimes.

You only have to look at Nvidias side to see that they got into the party too early. Buggy drivers, no vista drivers and PCI-E verification being late.

In my opinion the GPU makers should stop the crazy 6 month cycle and deliver more solid products to people. I dont know how much longer customers will have the nerve to eat crap drivers and potentially poor quality products.

I couldn't agree more.
