DX before Chipset?

Upon reformating I think I installed my DX drivers before my chipset. Does it make that big of a diff?

i learned to install chipset drivers before windows updates, directx, vid card, etc.... and i was probably told that for a reason.

but whatever, try things and see how they work. if they dont work good, you fkd up. if they work fine, rock and roll. it would probably take you less time to just install the chipset drivers now and try it than to reinstall windows and do it all over again in the right order.

Cats need DirectX... so I do what OldMX but the other way around (DirectX before Drivers)

If i remember correctly, ATI Catalyst installer warns only about the directx version, you can continue the install routine anyway, but i always the order i mentioned with several Radeon cards and never had a problem that way

That order is only recommended if you've already saved the SP1 and updates onto CD (or CD-R). My new system requires the chipset drivers be installed to even enable the Ethernet port that I have my DSL modem connected to. If that's the case, and you have broadband, then, there are two ways to get around that:

1. Switch your DSL or cable modem to a USB connection between modem and PC.

or

2. Revert to dial-up for access to the Windows Update site. (Not recommended if you have only a single phone line.)

well obviously if you need to install an ethernet driver first to go download sp1 and the updates then do that first lol

99.9% of all posters and users of the [H] forums likely have a burner of some type. It would be rediculous to NOT save as many of the newest drivers, files, and programs you can for on-hand install first, as opposed to trying to get them by downloading them all after.

New/Blank CD-R's are dirt cheap, and CD-RW's are hardly any more so.. prepare ahead of time.. have as much as you possible can onhand before you start. An hour or two's preperation will save you SOO many heartaches.
