Well this seems out of the blue. What do you think this will bode for current/near future GPU?

looks like a simultaneous double thread. Ignore and go to other one I guess =)
 
It is a response to AMD mantle open GL.

They do not want to lose foothold on it simple as that.

mantle works on linux and mac and other platforms besides windows. Diectx runs realtime 3d for work programs like 3d studio max and maya besides games.


So this is not entirely game driven.
