Well after camping best buy for almost 6 hours I got a SyncMaster 931BW, but it didn't come with a DVI cable, I was really pissed off. So anyway before I go buy one, does DVI offer higher picture quality than VGA? Also, does it offer different resolutions and higher refresh rates by any chance?

Basically it goes like this: same resolutions, higher overall signal quality. An LCD monitor using DVI at its default refresh rate of 60Hz looks sharper and causes less eyestrain than, say, a CRT monitor using VGA at a refresh rate of over 85Hz...once you hit 100Hz on the CRT, now, it might start to balance out...

Here's my two cents.

I have two 19" widescreens, one on DVI and one on VGA, and I honestly cannot tell the difference.

It really has alot to do with the quality of your panel.

VGA undergoes digital --> analog --> digital, which is why it's image quality is worse than DVI which is digital --> digital as far as I know. Someone described the difference as lifting a haze from the VGA picture when he started using DVI.

You probably won't be able to tell the difference unless it is on a real hi res panel. I would probably get one, but I wouldn't hurry out and pay a crazy price. Mail order one from monoprice for under $10.

I have the same setup and both mine look good.
Now, I did use s cheaper Dell 17" LCD and the DVI on that monitor was much much cleaner than the VGA.

Without DVI, you often have video noise, and have to mess around with "phase" and "sharpness" adjustments, which never seem perfect.

DVI will always offer superior video quality over VGA. How much difference there is between the two is determined by the monitor's LCD controller.
