DVI -> VGA adapter differences

I'm troubleshooting a certain problem which gives me blurry picture in certain cases.

My CRT monitor is connected to the graphics card I just bought (an MSI GTX 560 Ti Hawk) via a DVI -> VGA adapter that came with the card. I've never had the problem with the previous card (an Asus GTX 285), so I'd like to check with the adapter that I've used before.

I was going to simply replace the MSI adapter with the Asus one, but I noticed that they have different pins on them. Based on this diagram, the Asus adapter only has pins [14,15,16] and [22,23,24]. The MSI one has the following additional pins: [1,2],[7,8] and [17,18]. Both have the four rightmost pins and the large horizontal one.

Is it safe to try the Asus adapter (which has fewer pins)? I don't want to damage anything.

What do you mean? Both adapters are DVI->VGA and they both "pass the analog signal". The question is whether they're interchangeable.
 
Looking at a pin function diagram I'm not sure the Asus adapter should be working at all since pin 8 is the analog clock (are you sure it doesn't have 6-8, 14-16 instead). The MSI adapter has all the pins standard in a DVI-A(nalog) connector; but AFAIK only the analog/pnp ones are needed; the rest are just to help keep everything correctly aligned when you plug in.

Yes, they're all standard. Use whichever works best. Adapters I've seen have always had all the pins though.

Vertical sync is important.
That has pins 6, 7, 8, 14, 15, 16.
