DVI KVM Switch Max Resolution Support

I need to purchase a new KVM that will support dual DVI connectors. I have been looking at a couple of Startech switches. It seems that the max resolution that is supported is only 1280X1024. Since I am using my 22in flat panel at 1680X1050, is there a KVM that will support that resolution? Or can I get away with what I've been looking at? Any thoughts?

Here's one of the switches:

I should also mention that I'd like to get a 4 port switch.

wow, "draws power from your computer's PS/2 port", yet has a DC power input in the picture right there, that just instills confidence right off the bat

that aside, any reason you can't use analog?
because $330 is just a crapload:

I mean hell, for that money, go all in:

amazing what you can do when you shop at a decent retailer ;)

Hey, thanks for the links!!
:)

Guess I'd wanted to keep my options open for a dual monitor setup. And I didn't want to have to buy a new keyboard. I plan to have 3 PC's hooked up ultimately and I didn't want to have to use VGA adapters. I thought that the visual quality might suffer some.

I agree that $330 is FAR too much to have to spend, but I haven't found anything else that is setup like the one in the link. The Iogear switch is a good possibility though. Guess I should decide how important a dual monitor setup is.

Now if I could also find something that supported my Logitech 5.1 setup between two computers too................

I hate usb kvm switches. I'm still using my D-Link 4-port PS2 metal encased KVM from 2001, lol.

Anyhow, regarding analog and LCD panels... with older panels, like the Dell 2001FP Ultrasharp, there's a very noticeable difference between analog and digital. However, with most newer panels, the difference isn't as apparent to me. /shrug

I agree, DVI KVM's are too expensive still. Maybe they'll get cheaper when we all switch to display port... or maybe light peak? lol.

wait so instead of buying a new keyboard, which is like $150 at most, you're gonna spend hundreds more for a KVM? right...

you can get multiple input monitors or more monitors for cheaper than any KVM solution listed here, except the D-Link VGA one

as far as VGA vs DVI, no, there is no difference, that hasn't been an issue since like 1999

Good to know about the resolution issue. I would think that I'd be able to find a keyboard that is less than $150.........but I get what you are saying. Much cheaper to purchase a newer KB instead of spending ridiculous money on a KVM.

But I did see that Iogear makes a KVM switch that would also allow for a 7.1 speaker setup to be shared among multiple machines. While it is approaching $400 for the KVM, it does appeal...........

Why don't you just use a remove desktop solution? (assuming latency isn't an issue). For example, I only have one monitor, mouse, and keyboard for 3 computers. I have my gaming rigged hooked directly to my monitors, mouse, and keyboard while I access the two other computers through remote client (I'm like realvnc).

Otherwise, i recommend this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817399051 :D (I have the non-dual monitor solution and it drives my 30" monitor at work where one system exists on an isolated network.)
