I'm getting a black screen when the system starts up a lot of the time, especially on a warm boot, that says DVI:D Cannot Display This Mode. I have a Dell 2005FPW and ATI X1900 XTX. I started a thread on this a while back in the video card forum but never really found a fix from anyone so i thought i'd post the question again here where there are more experts probably lurking for displays. This seems like an issue that other people are having as well on the Dell flat panel monitors when using DVI. Anyone here have this problem? Anyone know what the cause is or a possible fix?

The only time I've seen something like that other then maybe a bad card/display. The older apple screens(23 inch) had some issues on pc's. The fix was an nvidia card as they seemed to be more compatable. Thats what I had to do with my 23 inch acd. I did some research before I bought it. When I rebuilt my system I had picked up a cheap x300 and it didn't work with the screen again. I bought a nvidia card and it fixed the issue. I have yet to hear or this with a dell screen though so I would say that it is prob a bad video card/display. Tried firmware upgrades by chance?

i've got the same monitor on a x800gto.

it does that every now and then when trying to enter the bios screen, but thats it.

edit: hasnt done it in a long time, but when it did do it, i just turned the screen off and back on again

Nope i havn't tried a firmware upgrade. I might try and contact ATI about the issue because it seems like quite a few people with X1900 cards are having this same issue with Dell monitors.

Here is my previous thread:
