DVI cable length issues?

Search still disabled... would rather trust you guys than some random site through google...

I've never used anything DVI ... and my question is....

Do you see quality problems when using long cables/or DVI extension cables? I'm looking at a length of around 12+ feet between a Radeon 9800 Pro and a Dell 2001FP running at 1600x1200 ... will I see any problems? or is that just an analog thing?

Sorry if this is a dumb post... actually, no I'm not :)
 
Well, I'm running a NEC 1860NX at 1280x1024 with a 5M (16.5ft) DVI cable, and notice no visual lag at all. Everything is crystal clear.
 
ummm 15M is actually 49 feet

you might have a 5 meter cable.
 
The normal rule is 3M for a 640/480 rez. at 1600/1200 id say you will be pushing it for 6 feet, as 1600/1200 is the max that dvi can do. if you check the avs forums you will see people just trying to get good 1280 output for 15 foot and having problems.
 
I have tried using generic DVI cables in home theater systems with little luck. 16' is about where the signal is so bad it's a "why bother" situation. However, Monster makes a 5m DVI that works perfectly at that distance.,,It's also as far as they recomend you go. Most companies can't even make "S" video cable over 40' that actually works. Monster goes over 200' with no loss.

I know cable is always an issue but I do this for a living so I have a bit of experience here. I use a monster DVI on my LCD, less vid noise sharper pict.

yeah, monster cable is most likely the best out there. I'm getting a 1M Monster cable from ebay. The best price I have found anywhere is $55.

I've read many positive reviews of the lindy 10M cable at avsforum, so I'd imagine the 7.5 and 5m cables are even better. These people were running 1920x1080 (actual max of DVI) and 1280x720 with no problems. And $52.50 for a 5M cable is a lot less than the $150 you'd pay at Best Buy for the 5M Monster cable.
