I run my 6800gt to a sanyo z2 projecter, and i was having problems getting widescreen working, since while the GT is outputing DVI digital, the nvidia drivers will only use the resolutions that the EDID data say, which happen to be all 4:3 and only up to 1024x768.

After much messing around, and a million reboots, i figured out, if i use a DVI to VGA adapter, then plug in my standard CRT, it forces the video card to boot up in DVI analog mode. So once windows has loaded, i unplug the adapter/monitor, and plug my DVI cable in, my projector is now recieving DVI analog signals, and is no longer limited by the driver/edid issues.

My projector is now running in 1280x720, dvi analog, and its pretty close to perfect. The only down side is every time i reboot i have to do the plug switch. I can live with this, since i dont reboot very often.

Now finally my question, anyone know how to make it boot in DVI analog mode straight from the start? Rather then this work around. And yer, nvidia fixing their drivers would be nice to see also ;p.
 
There are fixes but mainly it is because the nVIDIA drivers forcefully adhere to the EDID and its' limitations. I've received some feedback from some people at nVIDIA and they said that MS requires them to utilize the EDID data if they want to pass WHQL certification. Don't know if it's true or not though...

Anyways you might see if your EDID is write-protected and if not then you are in luck and can overwrite it with your own.
