DVD-writing problem

I have a sony DVD 410 rewriter drive upgraded firmware to 510. It reads CDs, writes CDs, plays movie DVDs but wont write or read DVD-RW discs

Its supposed to be +/- compatible and the discs i have are Memorex DVD-RW.

Can you come up with ay things i need to check before i go out and buy more media to try?

Any settings etc that could be causing the problem?
 
Memorex DVD's suck big time. Get some Verbatim or if you want cheap find some Ritec. Those are cheap and you can copy anything to them.
