how do those ducting mods work? like the ones with the hose type setup? I was thinking of running it from my window intake fan to my fan on my cpu.

It draws in colder air for the HSF and also removes one of the fans from the system to make it much quieter.

there is also a duct type mod where you can seperate the fan from the heatsink so the "dead zone" shrinks. I just removed the fan from an old fan and used the outside square rim as a seperator. lowered my temps 7 degrees centigrade.

I think that is called a shroud.

Yeah, they work pretty well.

This is Thermaltake's version:

And, from the side...

My favorite duct layout is to have it being used to expel air out, thus reducing the chances of hot air recirculation. This is especially helpful when you have a smalish case. The CompUSA Lian-Li variant with the two 80mm fans in back was perfect for a nice near-silent ducted system. One 80mm spot for the duct, one for a regular fan setup.

I use one of those Ducting Mod's to bring cool air from outside the case to bathe my CPU capacitors and heatsinked voltage regulators. Works great and considerably less voltage fluctuations as a result. The hot air gets sucked out by the PS fans.
