so I now have most of my parts in for my dual g34 folding box, i have 2 spare corsair h70's just laying around not doing anything and was wondering since im going to be folding this guy naked has anyone tried to do a mod to get a corsair h series to work with a g34 socket? I kinda went a little over budget and since these coolers are just sitting collecting dust i figured that i would give it a shot.

I do have access to a machine shop at work but i was trying to avoid designing a mount unless i absolutely have to.

my parts that i have in are:

ASUS KGPE-D16 SSI EEB
2x 6128 opto's
corsair ax 850
8 x kingston 2gb ecc 1333 sticks
120gb corsair force gt3 ssd
 
its do-able. the way the chips are layed out under the IHS you don't actually have to cover the entire thing. take a look at the thread showing the modded mounting setup for the hyper 212+ on G34. should give you some kind of idea on how to mount it. though if i remember correctly there are screws or some crap on the bottom of the cpu block which might be a problem, but i don't know.

other option is to replace the block with something else and attach it that way. because if i remember correctly the h70 doesn't have the controller built into the block like the H80/100 but i could be wrong.
 
if the holes line up then just some threaded #6 or #8 rods and some washers should do... but if it not then idk
 
the reverse AM2 mount won't work, if i remember correctly it uses its own mounting backplate/bracket. or at least it did with lga-1155.
 
Ah, good point. Forgot that many of them AM2s HSFs have custom backplate.
 
It could still work using separate machine screws/threaded rods. I installed my Xigmatek Gaia's on the ASUS Z8NA-D6C which had thier own back plates that I could not remove because the CPU retention mechanism was screwed to the backplate, and there was no way in hell I was going to let a CPU be held in by the HSF ONLY. As long as you have the appropriate brackets on the H70 which line up with the holes on your board. You can use the machine screw/threaded rod approach to interface with the mounting hardware on the board itself. If the H70 does not have the same threading as the G34 holes (metric vs imperial) you can buy nuts and washers as needed to replace the H70 mounting hardware.

The AM2 mounting hardware should be close, but I do not know the bolt spacing. However you can always modify the H70's mounting hardware to line up the the G34's holes.
