ok i have xp pro and i love it, yet the game i have been waiting for, halo 2, needs vista to be ran. i have vista, yet i dont want to be my main os. so how can i dual boot xp pro and vista on the same drive, i have a 160gb hdd in my system, and a 300gb hdd thats not being used right now(maybe use for media and games? need help with that too) and also, it would be cool if the software(if u need it) is pretty cheap, or free! :D thanks

First, search. There are dozens of threads dealing with this topic here and in the OS forum.

As a starter, you can use a GParted live cd to partition your hard drive, and install Vista there... for the most part it's a pretty simple and straight forward install, and Vista will set up your bootloader for you.

GParted is free, by the way. Great tool.

so i have to format and then put that disk in after formatting and before installing xp? or vista?

No, you don't have to format. You can use GParted to partition your hard drive, making a separate partition for Vista to live on. Say, hypothetically you have a 120g drive that XP is on. Of that 120g, you have 80g of free space. This space, or partition is called C: by your computer. You can use GParted to take some of that unused free space to create a new partiton, D: for example, and you can install Vista there.

But again, my first piece of advice is search this board for threads about dual booting, and search Google as well... read up and I'm sure you'll find the information you need. The one thing you need to understand is that you can permanently loose all of your data when you start fucking around with partitions on your drive, so be careful, and backup anything you can't afford to loose before you start....

ok cool thanks. and thanks for caring about the stuff on my drive, but i just got a new mobo the other day so i just finished putting all the stuff and games on my hdd so theres really nofin on there. wish me luck!
