I have an HP LP2475w in front of me and a very old Princeton LCD19D sitting to the left of it. They are setup using dual view. The one in the front of me is my primary monitor, the one to the left is the secondary. My video card is a 8800GT. Now, my problem is with the separate backgrounds per monitor function in nView. I have checked "Allow different background per display and selected backgrounds for both monitors, clicked apply, and ok. My primary monitor displays the background fine but my left just displays a black screen. I know the monitor is still on and working since I can see my mouse cursor when I drag it over. When I rearrange the virtual environment in the settings of "Display Properties" so that my secondary monitor is sitting on the right of my primary monitor, both backgrounds display fine.

Any ideas on how to properly display a background for my secondary monitor?

I don't have any experience with nView really but if you can't get it working, you can always just grab another multi-monitor software like DisplayFusion.

Say your resolution of each monitor is 1280x1024.

Use an image editor of your choice, make an image that is 2560x1024, double the width. Unless for some reason your monitors are one on top of the other. Copy an image or images into that and shape them to fit the 2560x1024 plane. Save file, set that as desktop background in tile mode. It will fill the whole area appropiately from there!

If your primary monitor is on the right of the secondary, you might need to split the image at the 1024 mark and flip the position of the two halves around.

This all takes a little bit of time, but at least you wont have to mess with some 3rd party application.

My resolutions for each monitor are different, so it won't work. My main is 1920x1200 and my secondary is 1280x1024.

1920x1200 and my secondary is 1280x1024.

Still works, you just have to understand the image will be bigger than then actual space.

1920+1280 for width, 3200

Use the larger height. 1200

3200x1200

So, put the image, or part of image you want in the top corner of the left side for primary, and then the next part of it flush with the first part in the top corner of it's right side.

Makes sense. But I'd still like to figure out how to do it with nView as I'd want to easily change one background and not the other without going through the hassle of making a new image each time. Thanks, for the help though Washuu, if nobody else knows how to fix it I guess I'll just do it your way.

I don't know if this applies to vista or Win7, as I only have XP - but this is how I do it.

Right click on desktop -> Properties

Desktop Tab -> Customize Desktop...

Web Tab -> New -> Browse -> find the image you want -> Open

Check in the box of the newly created item -> Make sure Lock desktop items is unchecked -> Ok -> Ok

You should see your new wallpaper somewhere on your desktops. Drag this to the desired display and click the Maximize button (top right, leftmost one).

Right click -> Arrange Icons By -> Lock Web Items on Desktop

After you've done this for any wallpapers you might want on your secondary display, you can switch wallpapers by unchecking the current one and checking the one you desire.

is nView + multi-monitor performance + DualView (this is key) + whatever else that talks about multimonitors in the CP enabled?

at some point it'll want to walk you through a wizard, which you can ignore or go through (it just sets things up), and then you can pick your backgrounds

if the driver is having issues with this, re-install

as far as "nView vs Ultramon" or "nView vs Display Fusion", generally better given the price, Ultramon is nice if you have more than two displays, but for two displays, not worth whatever $40 (nView or HydraVision + Display Fusion works fine)
