first of all forgive me if this has been asked, the search wont let me search for terms this short..

anyways, i actually currently have 3 24" lcds.
2 of them are the benq g2400w and the third is one of those samsung all in one deals.
i use the samsung as my tv so i am going to keep that definitely, but i really am considering trading in my 2 benq's for a 30"

i am a web developer and a photographer.
the bezel is just pissing me off badly and i feel that i need more space.
using all 3 monitors at once is kind of hopeless too, it is just far too wide.

so i basically i would like to know if any of you have made this move, why you did, and are you happier now with a 30 over dual 24's?

i like to game but never have the time with damn school and work..
i would want a good quality panel but those seem to be crazy expensive right now.
i am not necessarily wanting to change in the near future, more of a plan later this year.

How much money were you planning to spend?
One thing to be mindful of is that many (most now?) high-end 30" screens have a wide-colour gamut, which might be problematic for your web developing since the applications are not colour managed?

well i wouldnt be planning to buy anything till later in the year, i would probably get an IPS panel though, especially for photography.

for web development i mainly code, i do little design. most of the colors i do are just CSS values, i do very little graphics for sites aside from like a header or buttons.

more of what i want to know is what is if the experience of working on a single 30" is better than dual 24" or not?

from a productivity standpoint, dual monitors are better than a single one, no matter what size/ resolution they are. It is easier to organize your desktop, split applications per display, content/ palettes etc.
But since you already have experience with multiple monitors and the bezels bother you, then you might as well try a single 30'er and if you feel something is missing you can later on add a 4:3 secondary monitor in pivot mode to match vertical resolution which will not be a too wide setup as you current 3ple mon. one but a rather squarish one. This way you still have a BIG main monitor in front of you with no bezel distraction, ideal for photo work, plus extra space for secondary utilities on one side in a portrait layout . best of both worlds..

It is mostly subjective. However, one 30" monitor gives you 2560x1600, two 24" gives you 3840x1200. What you gain in width, you lose in height. Personally, I prefer the greater 1600 vertical resolution over the extreme width of 3840x1200, no distracting bezels either.

If I were you, I'd be looking forward to the new PA series from NEC and buy the 30" model from that range. NEC's ColorComp feature would be very nice to have due to the notoriety of uniformity issues on very large monitors.

I've seen people do 30" (2560x1600) + 2x 20" in portrait (1200x1600). So you get the big screen in the middle. I think multimonitors are far too useful to abandon for just one singble big monitor. You'll want side monitors as well if you're going 30" main.

If you go solely by pixels 2x 24" vs 1x 30" = 2x1920x1200 vs 2560x1600 = 4.608 Million pixels vs 4.096 Million Pixels. So you've got over 500K more pixels in those two 24" displays not to mention the convenience of dividing work/info up on separate screens.

well i do have the 3rd 24" that i would still be able to use.
i have read about that 30" + 2x20", it seems like a cool idea, but too costly at the moment.

as ive said 3x24" is just far too wide to be useful, your eyes are only able to focus on a certain area and that is too much.
2x24" for me, the far sides of the monitors, i find myself only using them to "store" windows until i want to use them.

i think it really comes down to me testing out a 30" just to see how i work with the space, i just don't know anyone with one :(

i use to have dual 2405fwps but it required too much peripheral vision. I now have a 3007wfp + 2007fp and i find that this is best setup. I use primarily photoshop, picasa and lightroom, and the 3007wfp is just perfect for it, while the 2007fp is delegated to chatting, itunes, email and other misc programs

wow, very cool, that is a great set up.
and i agree about the peripheral vision, parts of my monitors just seem a waste to me right now.
so far that is my plan, what you have there, but i will be waiting till late summer to make this switch most likely.

Have you tried using one of your 24s in portrait? Portrait is a godsend when working with code. Current I'm even suffering through using a 22" TN in portrait mode at work because it is just so much better to code with.

Thanks to Eyefinity, the following setups are now easily feasible
1 x 2560*1600 + 2 x 1200*1600
or
1 x 1920*1200 + 2 x 1600*1200

I like this setup I would do this. That being said I have 1 23" right now and I would rather have a 30" 2560x1600 than two 23 or 24". And you're only trading 2 right? So you'll still have 2 screen.

ya i am only trading 2 of them, so i would have a 24" which i primarily use as a tv right now.
the bezel on it is so obnoxiously big but i dont mind right now as it is a third monitor for me.
i think i have pretty much made up my mind to get a 30" sometime late summer or maybe fall, so i will see what is out around that time.
thanks guys.
